This was the question that I posed to both Facebook and Twitter earlier today. The responses were both informative and humorous. My favorite was from my friend Eric, who said, “I still prefer dead trees.”

So why am I asking about it? Originally, it was for my mom. She’s thinking about getting one or the other because she’s a member of a book club, and she’s tired of paying full prices for books she doesn’t even keep. I told her I would help her with some research and put the question out to my techno-geeks and see what would come up. As a result, I now want one.

I still prefer dead trees too, but there’s something about the potential simplicity of carrying around one device instead of several books. (By the way, if anyone suggests I get an iPad, I will smack you down.) I’m not always carrying around a book or anything, but I do travel somewhat often and lately I do go to the doctor’s office often. It would be nice to slip a slim device into my bag instead of trying to coordinate a giant book. Plus, let’s not forget that I’m a gigantic gadget-whore. Some girls shop for shoes. I buy technological wonders.

So far, I’m leaning towards the Nook due to its touch screen, memory expandibility, and the ability to share books with other Nook users. However, I still lean towards the Kindle as well just because I love everything Amazon does so, so much. I’ve also had better experiences when it comes to service with Amazon over B&N. If only I had tons of money just lying around. Then I could buy both and send the one back I didn’t like or try to sell it on eBay.

Anyone want to just give me $250 to blow?
