Week of Ego Stroking

October 24, 2010 by Keri Leave a Comment

I’ve pretty much been on cloud nine all week long (when I haven’t been stressed about meeting deadlines), thanks to some incredible validations that I’m really good at my jobs.

The first came from my real life job, when my boss told me that she had been invited–without sending a proposal to request to speak–at the Big (D)esign conference in 2011. I didn’t really know what that was at the time, but she explained to me that only big movers and shakers in the technical communication world in Dallas get invited to speak at this conference. On top of it all, she said she was invited because of our company blog, which I head up in delegation and I write most of it. So yeah, you had to peel me off the floor, I was so bowled over. I’m going to help her set up the presentation, and she said that if they want her to discuss SEO or more in-depth social media, she may have me present along with her. How cool would that be? I feel like an expert!

I’m also really cranking things in gear over at Games Are Evil, and they’re letting me pretty much revamp their writing system over there, which is a huge ego boost. A couple of the writers on staff even told me that they’re so happy I’m there because they like my writing. Soooo, people in the gaming world have seen my stuff before? That was a surprise on many counts.

And once I thought my head couldn’t get any bigger, I received 5 different review copies of strategy guides this month. FIVE. When I started writing my strategy guide reviews, I never thought it would take off and go anywhere, but it would always have been cool if it did. Now it seems like it’s going to. I may try to put up some ads and see if I get anything from that. At this point I’d just be happy if the ads paid for the site. 🙂

So many good, good things coming around. Now I just need to find a way to keep all these things going, be awesome at all of them, and sleep. But while I figure that out, entertain yourself with the following video of Gabe and Cooper finding ways to entertain themselves (loudly) at after-playdate lunch.

About the CrunchyChocobo

Keri has a weird gaming backstory that is better left unsaid. She has been part of the games writing industry since 2004 and has grown to love all RPGs, shooters, visual novels, and your general open-world adventure. When she’s not gaming or stabbing writers with her red pen (a favorite pastime), she’s teaching yoga, reading the latest WH40K novel, or trying to make sure one of her kids doesn’t set the house on fire. She used to write for various video game websites. Now she writes for herself and yells about comics on a podcast.
