I think that November is the National month for "crappy days at work." Last week I swore I was going to get fired, and this morning it took every ounce of rationality not to quit. I have three other friends who are having the same issues. Is it the moon? Is it Boss PMS month? Is someone peeing in the world's Cheerios? Thank God I'm having a spa day on Saturday. The masseuse is going to have fun working out the stress kinks in my shoulders.

I'm not a Cowboys fan by any means. However, I listen to the Ticket (sports radio) all day at work so I'm inundated daily with lots of Cowboys talk and news. What I want to know is why in the world do the Cowboys take on the rejects? Testaverde, Bledsoe, Owens, Vanderjagt, and now Grammatica. Do they think they can tap into some unknown potential and tame them? When people are past their prime, they're just past their prime. There's nothing there to tap into. As for Terrell Owens... he's another Dennis Rodman with the Mavericks waiting to happen. Yes, the Cowboys are doing well, but sheesh their recruiting makes no sense. At least they finally wised up about Bledsoe's spent potential and moved him to second string. There may be some small hope for them yet.

Home again, home again, jiggety jig.

I am so glad that we decided to come back on Saturday instead of Sunday. For one, my sister's guest bed was less than comfortable, and for two, it was nice to get back, do laundry and get our Christmas tree out. I love decorating my house for Christmas. I wish I could keep the decorations up all throughout the winter. But yes, we did have a nice Thanksgiving. Lisa's house was crowded with us, her in-laws, and Kay, but it wasn't too bad. We didn't have the usual drunkfest we always do with the family either. However, I did drink waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much on Friday night, which was prompted by my cousin and her new fiancee coming over. My cousin has the tendency to get very emotional, which I hate, so I drink to put up with it and then I get emotional, which I hate even more. Hopefully that will be all the emotional crap I'll have to deal with until her wedding in August, if we're even able to go. (It's in Hawaii, hence the possible logistics issues.)

Aside from our pretty tree, Shawn and I got each other our Christmas gift today: a new kitchen table. If you've ever been over to my house, you know how much I hate my kitchen table. I bought it back when we had no money and just got our first house. Well now it matches none of our decorations and other furniture. I have been eyeing a certain set at World Market for a long time now, and they cut the price in half this week. Therefore, I have a new kitchen table. It's just so nice to move out the "college" furniture and obtain "grown-up" furniture. It looks nicer and makes me feel more like an adult. I keep looking over at it and thinking, aaahhhh, pretty.

I didn't have the huge weekend of football that I thought I was going to have, but I'm glad that I didn't. Carleigh called me on Friday night to say that she and Trey were not going to the Baylor game on Saturday, because they didn't feel like driving all that way to see Baylor get beaten that badly. As much as I was sad that I wasn't going to see them, I agreed with them. Since Baylor lost Shawn Bell, they don't have their hearts in it anymore and have really flubbed up the rest of the season. I'm really glad that I didn't go, because I think I would be half dead today as I'm tired just from the Colts game. No, I'm not upset. No, I don't need therapy. As Shawn and others can attest to, I have said since last week that I was nervous about this game. The Cowboys suddenly became a decent football team in the past couple of weeks, as the Colts won their last couple of games by one point. Also, their time was coming. The Colts were never going to be a 16-0 team this year. It was a matter of time. Am I disappointed that the time came against the Cowboys? Yes. Am I looking forward to the family dinner tonight amongst all the Cowboy fans and seeing my in-laws for Christmas now? No. I'll probably hear the same things that I heard all the way back to the car (which if you aren't filthy rich, you have to park in the cash lot a four-mile hike away... it was like walking through a taunting gauntlet), just with more laughing and pointing. My favorite taunt were the songs of "overrated." Yeah... Peyton is overrated. That's why his team is 9-1 and the Cowboys are 6-4, and why they'll have a first-round bye and the Cowboys will be fighting for a wildcard spot. He really sucks, doesn't he? But whatever. If it makes them feel better to taunt and jeer over one win, then hey, whatever floats their boat. At least the Dallas fans were ten times better than Houston fans, much as I hate to say.

To completely shift gears, I'm shocked that this week is Thanksgiving. I'd almost swear that November 1st was yesterday. We're heading down to Houston on Wednesday to give thanks with a ton of family. I still have no idea where we're sleeping. I think I'm supposed to call Wednesday when we're on the road and I'll find out then after the paper-scissors-rock tournament.

Well apparently I've lost serious points on the wife scale. I totally forgot to list Shawn's birthday on my web page calendar. >_< I thought that I might have, when I was chatting with Rin yesterday and she said she didn't know it was Shawn's birthday. I found that odd, because she's one of the few people that I know reads my web page calendar. Did I check? Noooooo, that would have been smart of me. I had to run and catch my train instead so I could get home in time to start dinner. Shawn and Nicole kindly pointed out my mistake last night when it was too late to fix it. I might have gained some of those wife points back since I baked Shawn a cake. Other than my slight, I think he had a nice birthday. Brad and Nicole came over and we cooked dinner and drank wine. Definitely can't go wrong with good food and wine.

This weekend is going to be football crazy. I have the last Baylor home game on Saturday, and then Sunday Brad and I are going to Colts/Cowboys game. I'm actually a little nervous about this game. Since the Cowboys put Romo in, they've been doing a lot better, and even though the Colts are undefeated, most of their wins have been by one or two points. This could be the game where they lose their undefeated status. Either way, it should be a great game. And Brad, I will keep my promise that I won't get you into any fights. I can't promise that I won't get in any fights. We'll see if Cowboys fans are as big of jerks as Texans fans. I still can't believe that some of them were tearing pieces off of my Cheesehead at the Packers game. Jerks.

I am PUMPED about my trip to Italy next July. This weekend I went Christmas shopping for the Houston family, and when we stopped in Barnes & Noble, I found a huge photography book of Italy in the bargain bin section. Shawn and I were looking through it this afternoon and I am unbelievably excited. And tonight there is a huge special on the Discovery Channel about Roman History (thank youuuu, DVR, so I won't miss any football!). It's going to get me even more excited. I hope that my friends will be ready for me to stare at the Coliseum for hours and possibly give a lecture about Roman history during several touristy attractions. I think only Brad and my Dad will be amused, but oh well, it's my 30th birthday party and I'll be boring if I want to. Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!

My job is going to be VERY interesting in 2007. In the election yesterday, all of the Dallas County judges that had opponents lost their jobs. Only four were unopposed. Sooo, that's 49 inexperienced judges taking the bench next year. As someone whose docket consists of trial every week in January and February next year, this is scary. I'm not sure if this has ever really happened in Dallas before. I think what happened is that since a majority of the voters voted Democrat in Dallas, they voted a straight Democrat ballot... including judges. With this many rookies, the appellate courts in the Dallas district are going to be crammed full in the next few years. I'm sad about a few judges, because I had been in their courts many times and they were very nice and very fair in their judgments. I'm worried that if people voted a straight ballot, that they have done more harm than good with our judicial system. I never vote judges by party, and that's mostly because I never know what party they are. (Apparently they were all Republican.) I think that most people don't think about what voting judges off the bench can do. Most focus on the Congressional and Presidential elections. I used to be the same way until I delved myself into this business. I know it's too late now, but I think that next year I'm going advocate education when voting for judges, and urge people not to vote for or against judges unless they know about the judge, his past rulings, his court experience, etc.

Sigh.

2007 is going to be interesting.

I'm learning that I have little in common TV-wise with my friends at work. On Monday nights, they watch The Bachelor while I'm watching Heroes. On Tuesday it's Dancing with the Stars for them, and Gilmore Girls for me. Thursday nights have Grey's Anatomy, while I'm either at Dave's for anime night or watching anime at home. And on Sunday nights, they watch Desperate Housewives while I watch Sunday night football. Either I'm completely whacked out or they are rather girly, which does fit for Tom.

I'd like to wish a few people a very Happy Birthday today even though I don't think any of them read this site. Happy Birthday to Mom, Kerri, and Chris! I hope that you all have a wonderful day today! Chris, if you do read this site, Shawn and I need to take you out to celebrate whenever he gets back from Arkansas. Maybe we can have a joint celebration with Shawn, the young'un.

I think I'm done with the online forum thing. When someone feels that they should not only announce that they're getting a colonoscopy but show pictures from it... I think it's time to go. Does the internet provide that much anonymity that people just shed all boundaries? I seriously need to know about someone's colonoscopy as that person needs to know every time I get my annual scraping at the gyno. I'm just baffled over here.
