Must rant about JCPenney.

JCPenney is having a sale. I ordered some sandals online. In black. They arrived last week. In brown. Last night, I took them to the JCPenney Catalog desk to exchange them. They verified that yes indeed, the black sandals are in stock. They apologized for the error, refunded me for the brown sandals, and then ordered me black sandals. I even checked the order slip, and it said black. I received a shipping confirmation e-mail this morning for the sandals. Guess what? They're shipping me BROWN sandals. I called their customer service line immediately. The woman was very nice and insisted that she had no idea what happened. She only knows that the order from the JCPenney Catalog desk says brown sandals. There is nothing she can do at this point, as the sandals shipped out this morning. So she offers to order another pair of sandals, and she says that she will put a special order on them to be black. When I get the brown sandals in the mail, just take them back to the Catalog desk and explain that I've already reorderd for black sandals. Again. I swear to God, if I get two pairs of brown sandals in the mail, it will take all sorts of energy and restraint to not burn down the JCPenney shipping warehouse.

One wedding down, one more to go.

The wedding weekend in Aspen was fantabulous. It had a rocky start for the Houston family, though. Their flight to Denver was delayed and they missed the connecting flight to Aspen... even though when they walked up they had just closed the doors to the gate. They weren't the only ones denied access. Six other people were on that same flight from Houston and "missed" the flight as well. Arguing did nothing. They were all told that the seats were full due to stand-bys. Well that was a lie. The plane was practically empty. Quite a few rows had only one person in them. So my parents had to rent a car and drive six hours from Denver to Aspen. In the meantime, Shawn and I checked into the hotel and played around Aspen all afternoon.

The wedding itself could not have been in a more beautiful spot. It was an outdoor wedding at a lodge in the middle of a mountain valley. All around us were the mountains and in front of us was a lake. The only thing missing was the release of the doves.

The next day had a pig roast in the evening, but we met up with Shawn's parents in town beforehand. I had hoped to take them up in the gondolas so they could see the view from Aspen's peak, but of course, they were closed. They had never been to Aspen before, so at least we got to show them around the town a bit. Since it's not too far from where they live, we'll have to take them back the next time we visit and take them up the gondolas. On Sunday, the remaining guests went whitewater rafting down the Roaring Fork river. If I lived in Aspen, all my money would go towards rafting this river every weekend. The water was freezing cold (38 degrees!) but the constant rapids made it worth the blue fingers. I think I'm ready to take on level-4 rapids for the next rafting trip.

The only downpoint for the whole trip was walking out of the airport and into the sweltering Dallas summer heat. Thank God there was a breeze. It all came back to me why so many of my friends have moved out of Texas.

Four days here, and then Saturday it's off to New York for Allison's wedding! I somehow don't think we'll have nearly as nice weather there as we did in Aspen, but I'm sure that we'll have just as much fun. I've never been to New York before (the brief trip to the Statue of Liberty DOES NOT COUNT), so I'm rather excited.

These back to back vacations do make it very hard to focus on work.

Survived another weekend of A-kon! My party members consisted of my aunt, DT, and AO. This was my first time to meet AO in person, and I was both nervous and excited about meeting her. Good thing was that I had little to be nervous about. She was extremely laid back and friendly and very easy to talk to. When we all split up in the dealer room, she was my Narutard-partner-in-crime. All-in-all it was a successful con. We didn't overspend in the dealer room, we walked away with new cels, and we got to meet and take pictures with voice actors. I really couldn't ask for more except for certain voice actors to come. But hey, there's always next year!

Pictures are up, although they are paltry. Hardly any cosplayers dressed up as anime characters. Kingdom Hearts was this year's big winner in the cosplay department. I guess that the lack of anime characters drained on my papparazzi skills. Hopefully at the next con I'll be back in full form.

Friday was a long day. Nothing seemed to go right. One of those days where the afternoon just dragged on. Then I missed my train. And then my iPod decided to go wonky. I got home and there was no sign of Shawn. I called him to see where he was and when he thought he'd be home. He said that he was on his way and asked if I had fed the dogs. I said no, because I thought that he had. He asked if I could please feed the dogs, and then hung up. I dragged out their food bin, opened the lid, and discovered a brand new Nintendo DS with two games. Needless to say I about dropped backwards in shock. I had asked for one for my birthday, but that's well over a month away. So I called him back to gush my thanks and ask what it was for. It's a thank you for not killing him during his moodiness in the months before his inspection. He's once again taken me completely by surprise with Nintendo gifts. I can't wait until the Wii comes out.
