Today's quote has been brought to you by my fabulous online friend, Bacon-kun.

"Honestly in this day and age - dsl should be like clean drinkable water - a necessity."

I'm sure you can imagine what I was complaining about to her. And no, I still don't have internet.

The ever-infuriating quest for broadband internet continues. I realize that I'm in a new development, but to not be able to get either cable or dsl??? Freaking ridiculous. I'm so lucky I don't have a home business...I'd be royally screwed. After my fruitless search today, I learned I can get broadband via satellite. If I feel like paying $600 for equipment and install.

I've been told that broadband will be out in my area in six months at the latest. Sigh. Well, fansubbing was fun while it lasted. It looks like I'll need to take a hiatus, hopefully not for too long.

We finally moved into the new house. Well, all of our stuff is in the house. I have yet to unpack it all and place all the crap in their respective new locations. I had meant to yesterday, but after the Wal-Mart trip, Petsmart trip, and trip back to Kay's to pick up all of my refrigerator food...I was tired. And sore from the day before.

Nothing eventful to report about it...what can you say, it was a move of heavy crap from one location to another. But I will say that I am never having kids. I had been waning in my anti-spawn propaganda as of late, but after Saturday I am back with my camp. If I was asked one more stupid question while I was trying to unpack boxes so that the guys could haul more crap in while the parents of the child were out drinking beer, I would probably be in jail now for manslaughter. With everything I was trying to do, I kept tripping over this kid who was following me around for some reason and asking me all sorts of questions I could have cared less to answer while I have heavy things in my hands. Friends, Romans, countrymen, don't bring your five-year-olds to help somebody move. Especially not when the homeowner hates kids. Well, even if they do like kids, just don't bring them anyway. They're useless during a move and they need to be entertained, which is hard to do while you're uh, moving things.

Right now I'm trying to tackle getting internet in the house. Comcast has said that they have no idea when they can get service out to my area, so I'm actually getting a phone line for dsl. And that's even being a pain in the butt. I just want my internet! I want to be able to check my e-mail and download my anime goodness at home. That's all I'm asking.

Well, the last couple of hours at work were interesting. A little before 4, I noticed that it was rather warm in my office. Shortly thereafter an e-mail goes out saying that one of the cooling units on the parking garage (across the street) caught on fire. They had to shut the power off, and our building was now running on one air conditioner. Not only that, but the elevators to the parking garage were also shut off. They were providing golf carts to escort people to the upper levels. I decided to wait it out. Surely everything would be worked out by the time I was ready to leave. But it was getting warmer. Then another e-mail went out suggesting that everyone leave if you can, as they are not allowing anyone to access the stairs to the parking garage. Go on and get in line for the golf carts. So I pack up to leave. Just before I shut down, yet ANOTHER e-mail goes out saying that the 36th floor has had an emergency, and the elevators are shut down. I'm on the 41st floor. There is no way in hell I'm climbing all those stairs down. I'll stay here and sweat it out. At this point I am laughing rather hard. Until one of my friends pointed out that maybe this was how the people at 9/11 felt in the WTC. So as soon as they announced that the elevators were clear again, I rushed out like a madwoman. I hope I remembered to shut off my computer.

Lotsa fabulousness from the weekend.

First and foremost, we FINALLY closed on our house on Friday. No, not everything is perfect or how we want it, but we got tired of waiting on the builder to do anything. So now the warranty guy gets to hear from us for a whole year. Isn't he the luckiest guy on earth?

Second, we spent all day shopping for house necessities and painting. We actually got the master bathroom and bedroom done. The different color blues look very cool and comforting. Shawn hopes to get the rest of the painting done (just the dining room and garage) tonight and tomorrow. Then it will be time for the wood floors. Byron came by while we were taping the rooms to discuss painting my living room. We discussed ideas and ways to make it look like the inside of a medieval castle. I have a feeling that this is going to look so very very cool. He's going to start on that next weekend. So we really should be all moved in by the end of the month. I think we're all looking forward to that.

And for the most fabulous news of all, Shawn's not going overseas anymore! It was decided this weekend that during that same time frame, all technicians will be needed elsewhere in the state. It's because of things like this that I didn't want to tell anyone in the first place that he was going. I knew for months that it "might happen" before it suddenly became "definite." Just goes to show you that nothing is "definite" in the military.

Well I am worn out from all of the manual labor, and I think I hear a glass of wine calling me before I call it a night. I will have pictures of our finished house later...I just forgot to bring my camera today.

Pictures from the con are up!

I forgot about one thing from the weekend in my last post. Whenever I lead our group to go eat in downtown, I took the longest-ass routes every time. The first time I don't feel so silly because we didn't know where we were going to eat until we were rather far from the spot. But the second time, geez! I knew the crossroads and everything and I still took the scenic route. You'd think that I didn't work in downtown and never walked the streets with the routes I took. Sheesh it was embarrassing.

Enjoy the pictures!

To quote my friend Lee (from a comment a year ago), I went to A-kon this past weekend. So did 10,000 other maniacs.

With me were Christi, Kay, and DT (cel collector friend who randomly flew into Dallas for the occasion). I had more fun running around like the papparazzi with my digital camera screaming after cosplayers to let me take their picture. I felt like a personal tour guide for Kay, who constantly asked me what people were dressed up as. I was kind of worried that she would be bored since she hasn't seen much, but she said she had a ball. And I learned that DT is a bad influence in the dealer room. I have never had another cel collecting anime freak at a con with me, so I found myself falling prey to and buying a whole bunch o' stuff I normally wouldn't buy. I don't regret it now, but I'm sure I will once I get my credit card statement.

One of the best parts for me was getting so many compliments on the shirts I made. I made shirts for Christi and I to wear at this con and I got tons of compliments on them. I got rather giddy when anyone said anything about them. Maybe I can start that T-shirt business I've tossed around and make a few bucks on the side. It seems that two of the ideas I've had were good ones!

In house news, we could be closing in the next two weeks. It looks like most of the problems are on their way to getting resolved, and good thing too. I'm ready to get in there and paint and move in to our own place!
