This morning I decided that it would be a good idea to ride my bike with my aunt and her running buddies around White Rock lake...when I haven't done any real exercise since I quit refereeing. Which was in 2003. 15 miles and falling twice due to knees giving out, I'm very sore, feel very weak, and very embarrassed. Not embarrassed about how slow I was or that my knees gave out, but that I thought I could handle something like that with no preparation and now I'm suffering for it. Oh well. Lesson learned, and at least I can say I did make it the whole way...even though I felt like dying. I am going to try to work myself up to it, though. This made me realize how much I missed riding my bike.
Oh and Renea, just for you, we've uploaded a few new pics of the boys. The ones of Mufasa are just handsome. I really think we could have made him a show dog if I had lots of money and time to waste and if we hadn't removed something vital from him. New house pics are forthcoming. Stay tuned! posted by Keri

We had our house walkthrough yesterday. Our builder assumed that the house was so perfect that our walkthrough would go smoothly and we could close on Friday. They assumed wrong. There's nothing majorly wrong with the house, aside from putting in a few wrong fixtures, but most of the "fixes" they did were so lazy. Holes in the walls filled with paint instead of drywall. Those kinds of things. Oh, and there is the one wall that curves outward to the point you can see the baseboards curving off and cracking. They fixed that with more caulk. Because that will stop the baseboards from breaking. The new closing date is set for Tuesday, but I don't think that's going to happen either. We're not closing until that one wall is redone. Our house is coming along beautifully, but after our experiences with this builder for this house, I won't be recommending them to anyone or use them again.
Last night we finally saw Star Wars! It was everything I expected from my last post. And it had tons more Obi-Wan action than anticipated. Lots of Ewan McGregor is always a good thing. I do think some things in it were rather weak, and I didn't like it that Padme named her daughter Leia. If you watch the episodes in order now, 6 doesn't have as much of a surprise. She should have died before naming her. But actually I don't think she should have died at all, since Leia talked about her mother always being sad. It would fit that Padme would take Leia and go with Organa. But whatever. They obviously didn't consult me or care to for the script. But I did absolutely love the movie. Best of the first three. Empire still holds as my personal favorite. And Darth Vader is still one scary and awesome villain, even almost 30 years later. It was amazing to watch his entrance in Episode IV, and it was amazing to watch his development and entrance at the end of III.
Now I think this weekend I need to go pick up a copy of the Clone Wars, a cartoon mini-series that Lucasfilm and Cartoon Network put together as a story of the war before Episode III. From reading Matt's blog, it sounds like there are some things in it that helps develop the story, like who the hell Grevious is and how he came to be. posted by Keri

Back from trial and I'm happy to say we got a defense verdict!!! It was such a stressful week with having a trial in Collin County vs. Dallas, trying to get everything organized, working with new presentation software, and still keeping up with things in my other cases but it was fun too. I've never been to trial with both Charlie and Steve and they made it a lot of fun. The defendant doctor did too. I'm going to miss him. If I ever need back surgery, and I hope to God I don't, I'm definitely going to him.
I am supposed to go to trial for another case on Tuesday, so after I heard the verdict on Friday I went back to the office to talk with that attorney. He asked if it would be okay if another legal assistant went with him since she had been doing the prep work while I was gone. I didn't think twice. She is more than welcome to go if she wants to, and yay, she wants to. I celebrated our victory and the fact that I'm not going to trial next week by taking off the rest of the day. I had planned on napping, but I ended up watching Star Wars Episodes I and II instead. Now I'm all pumped about seeing Episode III. I expect both bad romantic dialogue and kick ass lightsaber battles.
Shawn and I went to Lowes yesterday to get pricing on all of our future decorating needs. Curtains have now been ordered, and I picked out the paint samples for a few of the rooms. I've uploaded the paint samples and the floorplan to the home improvement if you'd like a look-see. When we start the decorating, hopefully in a few weeks, I'll upload our progress pictures. So be sure to check back in that section in a couple of weeks or so.
In a random note, my June issue of Nintendo Power came in yesterday and the new Legend of Zelda (entitled Twilight Princess) looks bad ass. Link has a Triforce tattoo and turns into a wolf which makes all of the game colors go black and white? Sweet. All I need is a release date, people. RELEASE DATE!!! posted by Keri

Well I've taken down the home improvement stories. We figured that since we don't live there anymore, there really isn't a point to posting stories and pictures about the home improvement there. However, we will post pictures of our house in progress once we get decent pictures. I may even copy Jarrett's idea and post the colors we're planning on for the rooms. So far the rooms are developing international themes. The kitchen will be ancient Rome, the living room/breakfast area will be medieval, and of course I'm keeping my Japanese room to store all of my anime, manga, and corresponding collectibles. posted by Keri

I need to get better about updating. And when I say that I mean updating about things that are going on with me...not random musings about whether something is inherently wrong with Dallas or whether butterflies like cookies or whatever. Although I am sure something is inherently wrong with Dallas...
This past weekend was pretty good. For one, I didn't have to go into work even though I might be going to trial tomorrow, and for two we had a Mother's Day feast at Kay's. Byron brought the main entree, Kay made salad, and I made the side dishes and my fabulous dessert, fruit pizza. It was the most beautiful fruit pizza I have ever made. I was almost too sad to cut it up and eat it. Almost. Afterwards we went out to the house so Byron could get ideas on painting it. I will say that I am a little upset with some of the colors that I picked. I swore that I held the tile, cabinet, and counter colors together when I picked them, but apparently it's only when you see it in life that you realize how pink they are. I have a pink kitchen. It makes me very sad. I'm hoping that the decorating colors I've chosen for the kitchen will offset the pink and make it not look so, well, pink. My mom helped reassure me when I called her that night and told her about it. (It sounded like she had a fabulous Mother's Day. I wish I could have seen my Dad grill outside with a poncho during the monsoon.) And I hope she is right. I really really don't want a pink kitchen.
Everyone mark your calendars for Saturday, August 20th! We will be having a combination housewarming/2nd Talking Shit party/Going Away party! So start looking for broken things now that you want to smash into oblivion with our Gallagher hammer. If you want to bring gifts for the housewarming part, gift cards from Bed, Bath and Beyond, Home Depot, and Best Buy are ALWAYS welcome. As for the Going Away part...yes, Shawn is going to Afghanistan in September for a brief tour. I know I haven't told many people, and believe me, it wasn't intentional to leave anyone out of the loop. I just don't like talking about it. But what better way to send Shawn off than to smash a bunch of broken items?
Well, lunch is over, and it's time for me to get back to getting ready for trial. I don't think that we are going tomorrow (guess I should find out) but I'm pretty sure we're going next week. A whole week in McKinney! Whoooo! posted by Keri

I'm beginning to think that all my friends know something about Dallas I don't. Why? Because practically all of them have left. Jen moved to Minnesota, Kerri moved to Seattle, Lucinda moved to Las Vegas, Rachel is thinking about Chicago, and now Mari, a fabulous friend from Baylor who I just found in Dallas, is moving to Austin. There is hardly anyone left, and I rarely see those who are anymore. When Mari mentioned that I should move to Austin as well, I can't say I wasn't tempted. I have quite a few friends down that way that would love it if we picked up and left. Unfortunately, there is that thing called reality, and it forbids me to abandon job and new house to be with friends. Stupid reality. posted by Keri
