Rather than give you a rather long and possibly boring synopsis of my trip to Vegas (in which I was only in Vegas for 40 hours...) I'm going to list out the things I learned while I was there.
1) Walking up and down the Strip for 6 hours does not make my bad knee happy (or any exposed skin...stupid sun) 2) 60 degree weather is not too cold for tourists to sunbathe. 3) Gambling (the slots) is not as much fun as it is hypnotizing as the shinies keep spinning...must make the shinies spin... 4) 9:30 a.m. is NOT too early to start drinking. 5) $12.50 is too much to pay to ride a 30-second long roller coaster, no matter how cool it is. 6) Never eat at the ESPNZone in New York New York. 7) Listening to "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is amusing if you listen to it while watching everyone walk the Strip. 8) The Blue Man Group is not for everyone. I can't explain it, but I can definitely tell who to go and who NOT to go. I highly enjoyed it. 9) You will never feel old until you ride on a plane from San Antonio back to Dallas filled with SMU undergrads. 10) It is possible to sunburn through the seams of your jeans. If you don't believe me, I've got racing stripes down my thighs that say I'm right. 11) It is also possible to be stuck in an airport/airplane for lengthy periods of time so that one can finish a 700 page novel. Finished the last page as I was landing in Dallas.
I do have plenty of pictures of my brief time in Vegas, and I'll put them up eventually. They'll tell whatever my little lessons did not. I didn't get to do and see as much as I wanted, since I literally was in Vegas for only 40 hours. Next time I want to catch O, a comedian show (I missed David Spade!!!), and see the Bellagio fountain show. Literally ran out of time and my knee really couldn't take much more walking. Ahhh, the power of Aleve. So shucksie darn...I'll have to actually go back. Now that will be a crying shame. posted by Keri

Such a nice way to end March. This past weekend was tons of fun and I know that this weekend will be tons better due to the Vegas factor. Four days, BABY!!! This past weekend I went to Allen to hang out with Christi. After going to her apartment, I suddenly must have 2 things: the chinchilla I've been wanting for a couple of years and Tivo. Okay, I'll explain myself. I had so much fun just watching her ferrets play. Every time I go to Petsmart for my weekly crickets run, I have to play with the chinchillas. And now after watching the ferrets and seeing Christi's new mice, I really really want a small pet again. As for Tivo, I've never understood the appeal of Tivo, because I don't watch that much TV. But suddenly I realized while watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force (probably the best cartoon show out there right now) that I could watch all of those shows that I want to watch but haven't because they're on so late...if I had Tivo! May need to invest in that as well as hardwood floors.
On Saturday, the Stampes graced Dallas with their presence! I met them up at Snuffers and then went shopping with Kerri at the Banana. It's always good to see the Stampes. And I get to see Kerri all week while she's here at work! I'm sure we'll make our usual trek down to the best Chinese food in the world before she leaves. Since she and Sue both left I've been Chinese-food-deprived. I think I'm seeing spots.
Oh, and my new Sunday plans of playing videogames to fill in the football void is going swimmingly. We'll see how long I can keep doing that when Shawn gets back. I don't want to crunch into Tiger Woods time...oh no, that could be bad.
As a side note, if you want to see my new banner for my cel gallery that I made all by myself, by all means, go. Go see that thing that I am so proud of myself for making that I'm sure all users of Photoshop can already do and are thinking, "Yeah, so?" when they see it. posted by Keri

I finally finished Storm of Swords, a book I've been reading for ages now. I've had a love/hate relationship with the book. It's the third book in a series by George R. R. Martin, and it's been a difficult series to read. I'd read the book for a few hundred pages or so, either get horrified or mad at the plot, put it down for a couple of months and read comics, and then pick it back up again and jump back in to the same cycle. But when I got near the end, I could not put it down. I'm glad that the next book isn't released just yet, so I can put aside this book. Don't get me wrong...it's a great series. This is probably the most realistic telling of a medieval coup I'll ever find. It's just not for the weak at heard, queasy of stomach, or closed of mind.
To celebrate, I enjoyed yesterday's great weather by laying out on the hammock and taking a nap. Today I picked back up an old friend...video games. Ah, how I have missed you. I saw this week that Kindgom Hearts 2 is coming out in September, so I have to finish my Inuyasha game, and then finish Kingdom Hearts before then. The dialogue of the Inuyasha game is still pretty bad. If you aren't a huge fan of the show, I don't recommend picking up this title. Not much will make sense unless you've at least seen a couple of seasons.
Just 3 weeks until Vegas! I am so ready for a vacation. Things aren't hectic at work or anything, actually, they're rather slow, but I really just want to get away. I can't remember the last time I took a real vacation...and seeing the family does not count. I guess it would have to have been my Minnesota trip. I know this summer I'm going toobing, possibly to Colorado with the family, and hopefully to Seattle to see the Stampes. Still saving money for the 30th birthday party in Japan.
Aside from planning vacations...not much is going on with me. Shawn will be in Vegas until April, so I really haven't done much of anything. It's weird...when you're single, someone is always calling asking what you're up to. When you get married, the phone calls slowly stop as your single friends get married. Or with my friends, move out of the freaking state. Everyone gets married and becomes bums. Or it's that they now have the responsibility of owning a house so no one has time. I'm not sure.
Don't think I don't get out of the house. I went shopping this weekend and bought a couple of DVDs and a Bush-hatin' CD. What can I say...I love Green Day's music! I also found out that the Petsmart by Kay's house has chinchillas, so we went up there to play with them. I've owned and played with a lot of rodents, but I've never played with one that smelled so clean, was so friendly, and was so soft! It was so weird holding one...I knew something was in my hands because I could feel the fur but it felt like holding air. That might have been my downfall...I may have to get one now.
I hope the weather continues to be nice...I'm ready for biking weather! posted by Keri

Hi. In case you don't know much about me, I'm an animal lover. I have 2 dogs, a cat, and 2 frogs. I've always wanted to have 3 dogs and a couple of chinchillas. I like to visit my friend Christi and play with her ferrets. Yes, I drive my husband crazy. My vet and Petsmart love me.
I tear up whenever I see a hurt animal or even see one get killed on TV. I've walked out of movies because the dog died. I've gotten in arguments with friends over animal cruelty...whether it's the owner's right or not since animals are property. So when another friend sent me a link to SaveToby.com you can imagine I didn't find it funny. Yes, I realize that it is a parody. That doesn't mean I have to find the humor in it. The true horror came when another friend in reply to the link sent a link from snopes about Toby's "plight." The article from snopes went on about how many people buy rabbits and then quickly decide they can't take care of them. So they turn them over to animal shelters, release them (where they usually live only 3 days in the wild), or kill them.
I was horrified.
It makes me sick that people want animals because they are fluffy and cute but don't do any research on how to take care of them. Then when they find out what a pain it is to take care of animals, they release these captivated animals into the wild that they know nothing about or kill them.
However, this is coming from someone that cries over killing pet bunnies but feels absolutely nothing reading about the Dallas man who killed his pregnant girlfriend. Before I get the e-mails, I swear that I'm not a big animal rights activist or hippie. I'm a "hey you stupid moron, before you buy a pet that will depend on you for the rest of its life, do some research and give the pet a very happy and fulfilling life you selfish, selfish freak" activist. posted by Keri
