Forgot to mention that Shawn and I saw The Incredibles over the Thanksgiving break. Fanfreakingtastic movie. Go see it...I don't care how much you hate animated films. posted by Keri

Back in Dallas, BABY!!! And oh-my-freaking-GOD it's cold here! We left Houston and their nice 75 degree weather to enter Dallas at a frigid 49 degrees. I was bundled up all day on Sunday while doing laundry because I've temporarily lost the ability to handle anything below 65 degrees. I hope you're ready for a lengthy post, because I have a lot to say (shocker!) about last week.
Lisa's wedding was absolutely beautiful and a lot of fun. Beforehand, my body decided to catch a nasty cold, and I sounded awful. I was nervous about making my toasts at the rehearsal dinner and the wedding...I didn't think anyone would be able to hear me or understand me. Also, I didn't want to feel like crap while standing next to Lisa at the altar, or be sniffling and coughing all the way through. With my luck, when they watch the video months from now, all they would hear is me snorting snot during the ceremony! Mom crammed spiced tea and drugs down my throat as soon as I arrived, so I felt loads better for the wedding. But I was still nervous about my toasts. I HATE talking in front of people. And did I plan anything prior to the big day? Oh nooooo...not me. However, standing up in front of my family and two hundred of my sister's friends really wasn't that scary. Everyone laughed at my jokes and Lisa said what I said meant a lot to her. Mission accomplished. Time to drink wine and dance like no one is watching. Couldn't do the former because everyone kept talking to me, but oh yes, I did dance like no one was watching. I can't wait to see those pictures. Probably the best part of the whole wedding, for me, was spending time with Allison and Caitlin. I hadn't seen them since my wedding, and the three of us had a blast tearing up the dance floor and catching up. Caitlin almost didn't make it at all...little goof missed not one plane, but two. I'm going to have to plan a trip to New England sometime to visit them. I miss them and the rest of my second family a lot!
On Sunday, after a quick power nap, Shawn and I headed over to my cousin's to start tailgating for the Packers/Texans game. Magic surprised me by letting me take her tickets...on the 40 yard line...six rows up...PACKERS SIDE!!! I got to see Brett Favre up close and personal and oh my God he's a beautiful man. Too bad they weren't signing autographs. That was probably the most stressful game I have ever gone to...Packers futzed around for three quarters and then depended on Brett to pull them close enough for a field game. I really thought we were going to lose. I must also say that Houston has some of the biggest jackasses for fans ever...especially when the Texans were winning. I was really tempted to start a fight with this one fan. Never met a bigger jerk in my life. But the Packers did win, and we're really close to clinching the division title for the playoffs. Oh yeah, hey Jen! I actually wore my cheesehead for the first time!
We spend Thanksgiving at Magic's, since my mom was really not up to cooking a Thanksgiving dinner after the wedding. I parked myself right in front of the TV so I could watch the Colts play a beautiful game. It looks like Manning really will beat Marino's record this year! Yay Peyton! While watching the very sad Cowboys game, we played Trivial Pursuit. Very happy to say that my team won, although I don't think it was because of my knowledge or lack thereof. Dear God this recent version of the game is hard. We came back on Saturday so we would have a day to clean house, do laundry, and recup. Guinevere didn't destroy the house, which was good, but we did find a dead froggie on the floor. Somehow, before we left, one of my frogs got out. I'm still baffled how this happened. I know Guin didn't kill him because he was in one piece and she wasn't sick or half-dying. Shawn bought me another frog, the two have been fighting ever since. If these die, I'm going to give up. Obviously I can't handle taking care of frogs.
Lunch break over. Back to playing catch up! I don't think I can handle taking off another week of work again. That and it was a bitch getting up this morning to be productive. posted by Keri

There's no question that I have to have this shirt. You can just smell the geek on them...so don't take a big whiff. Most geeks don't shower. I learned that at A-kon 2004. posted by Keri

And the final days edge closer for Lisa's wedding! You'd think that everyone would be a little more relaxed since they just did a wedding a few years ago, but no, the stress is rampant. But I guess that's what happens when the mother of the bride calls herself the "Wedding Gustapo." So to say the least, it's been a busy few days. I'm wrapping up things at work (or trying to), working on my first fansubbing project, and packing up for Houston. Shawn is on a "business trip" in Las Vegas. He'll have to take another "business trip" to Las Vegas for all of March. But I'm sure he's working a little bit while having a good time, although I bet he didn't work too much on his birthday.
But anyway, yes, I did finally get a fansubbing assignment! I'm the editor for the subtitles for Elfen Lied, a new anime out in Japan. I was really hesitant about it, because when I saw other fansubbing groups come out with it, they had all these warnings about nudity and violence. Nudity, not so bad. Seen far, far worse. Violence is pretty bad. The main character likes to rip body parts off of people (arms, heads, hearts...) and sling them away with a nice splash of blood. Everywhere. But really, the story is very good and the violence doesn't happen all that often. If you can stomach the first five minutes of the first episode, you'll make it. I edited three scripts over the weekend, and I have three more waiting on me to complete before I head to Houston. I know this is completely dorky and everything, but it makes me so happy to be a part of something with anime.
What is wrong with Lewisville traffic these days? It used to take me an hour to get to work in the mornings. These past few weeks I'm lucky to get to work in less than an hour and a half. The drive home has gotten really bad too. It used to be easier than my morning commute, but the average time now is 1.5 to 2 hours, and it doesn't matter what time I leave. I was at work until after seven on Monday or Tuesday and I still didn't get home until close to nine. Yesterday morning there was this big accident in Lewisville (slowed my commute to 2.5 hours) and there was another accident in Lewisville in the evening (2 hours). Why is 35 suddenly so congested? Did everyone in Denton County suddenly find jobs in downtown Dallas? I already hated my commute, but all this does is make me very irritable and hateful towards people in general. Yes, I know I hated people before, but now my hate is accompanied with anger and annoyance. posted by Keri

I almost posted something about me going to trial tomorrow. Remember those two trials I had scheduled for the next two weeks that went away? One came back with a vengence. At 9:30 a.m. Monday morning I was told we were going to trial on Wednesday morning, so start on the exhibits. Exhibits are something that really should be done on a weekend when you don't have interruptions and you can wear comfortable clothes. So I've been going crazy since that time yesterday trying to get everything ready. I even packed up my suits so I could stay at Kay's this week. Thirty minutes ago it was announced that this case has been reset for January. Wheeeeeeeeee. posted by Keri

When did this happen? I'm a tomboy, and I'm a geek. I like sports. I used to play rugby. I watch anime, read comic books, play video games, read fantasy books, and play with my website settings for fun. So how come I'm suddenly shopping at trendy stores, and I get all excited about dangly earrings and bangly bracelets? And getting waxed! When did I decide to start doing that? This weekend I tossed aside my sports watch for a pretty watch with stones and I bought a new stylish suede winter coat. My aunt bought me this fun pearl bracelet because I squealed when I saw it. It all just hit me today. I won't freak out too much as of yet, since I still have no desire to style my hair or wear makeup. But when did I freaking start to become a girl???? posted by Keri

It's time for...MORE FUN WITH DEPOSITIONS!!!
Q: Well, you've treated people who have suffered death and have been in a coma for weeks and days if not hours, true? (lawyer)
A: Well, I usually stop treating them after they're dead. (expert)
Sometimes it's the little things that make this job entertaining. Come trial time, it's lots of things.
