Thank God I didn't have trial last week otherwise I'd never get caught up! I thought that things would slow down a little bit, but as usual, I was wrong. I feel like I'm being tugged on in a million different directions. And on top of that, I'm trying to plan Lisa's bachelorette party which has proven to be a giant headache. I'm seriously going to clang some bridesmaids' heads together. It's times like these that make me remember why I don't get along with a majority of women. How in the world did I survive being in a sorority?
I put all work aside last weekend, which was super-freaking-tastic. Saturday was my 27th birthday, and with most of my Dallas friends gone, I decided to go to George's and feast on my favorite food and hang out with some of my Waco friends that still hang around there. We had a fattening lunch and drank lots of Big O's with Severy and Lee. It's amazing how many Big O's you can drink and how long you can talk sometimes. We were supposed to be at my aunt's by 6, because she wanted to cook me a birthday dinner, but we didn't leave until 5:30. We were a tad bit late. We gorged ourselves again on her fabulous meal and hung out until all of the alcohol I had been drinking since 1 that afternoon took over and made me very sleepy. On Sunday we went to see Spider-Man 2. If you have not seen this movie, go now! I would pay to see it again. Oh yeah, birthday gifts? I got a bunch of suits from my mom (yay, Mom!) and a crap load of anime DVDs: Inu-yasha and a new series, Gungrave. I was only interested in Gungrave because it's by the same creator of Trigun. So far, it's pretty good.
Now for something completely random. When you go to a hospital for a doctor's visit (nothing serious, just a routine exam, but my doctor did tell me to start losing weight) you don't expect to see anyone you know. Especially not in Lewisville. As I was leaving and walking through the hospital lobby, I saw Jaret of Bowling for Soup with his baby daughter! I actually did the fangirl thing and called out his name, told him I was a fan, that I had been one since I saw him perform at Scruffy's in Waco eons ago. He smiled really big and said thanks. He probably was thinking, God what a freak. I can't even go to a hospital without getting pestered.
This weekend I plan to do nothing but veg. And get a hair cut. And clean house and do laundry. Shawn will be building a deck for his uncle's secretary. I would offer to help, but I don't like to work in the heat. Didn't he build our deck in August? Does he like building stuff in 100+ degree weather? posted by Keri

No more going to Boston. I sad. All in all it's a good thing. We were supposed to stay with some friends up there, but they were going to have to leave for Vermont earlier than we thought and with other expenses that have suddenly come up, this really works out for the best. I still hope we do something that weekend because it's our third anniversary and hey, no one has been murdered! Yay! (Although, the cat's days are really, really numbered.)
In completely random anime news, I finished watching one of the best short series ever. Whenever ADV Films releases it or if you have bit torrent access goodness, buy or download Chrno Crusade. Simplistic synopsis: demon slaying Catholic nuns. It doesn't top Trigun, but it seriously pushed Cowboy Bebop out of the number 2 slot for ten best short anime series. If you're anti-religion, however, don't waste your time. It is a Christian (Catholic, really) based story that has an absolutely fascinating way of looking at the Catholic faith and history post-WWI. In a way, think of how Dogma explained faith. It's that freaking good.
Poor Baylor. My alma mater has been in the headlines for years now with less than happy news. I hope that this decision of the Regents is a good one and Baylor's future will turn around for the better. (Thanks, Matt, for the heads up.) Despite everyone's complaints about Sloan spending too much money, Baylor looks absolutely beautiful with all of the new buildings and reconstruction. Shawn and I drove past a little of it this weekend, but when we go down on Saturday I may need to walk around campus. I dare say it rivals the beauty of Texas Tech's campus.
We're going to Jamaaaaiiicaaaa...we're going to Jamaaaaiiicaaaa... Yes, it isn't too good to be true! I did win a bona fide trip to Jamaica with no strings attached good for up to a year. I can't say "Kick ass" enough about it. Shawn and I also joined a travel club, where we can get these awesome deals for traveling. I was won over when they said that their 14-day Australia trip cost the same as a plane ticket, which includes plane ticket, hotel, and one meal a day. It looks like I will definitely be able to go to Japan for my 30th! Also, friends and family can use our vacation discounts, so anyone who wants to go with me to Japan can join in on our savings. I'm so very, very excited about all of this. Now we just need to sell our house and life will be damn near perfect.
In addition to the travel club, Shawn and I were rather busy over the weekend. On Friday Rachel and Allison came over for dinner and just to hang out. Rachel gave me my first bikini wax ever. I love it. I'm going to bribe her with food every month now to come over and wax me. Now that Kerri has up and left us for Seattle, the three of us feel a little lonely, but it's so great that we all get along so we can hang out. I think they're even going to go to Waco with me for my birthday. (I'm going to the best restaurant in the world...George's!! If you don't believe me, listen to Pat Green.) Saturday we hiked down to Austin for Shawn's grandparents' 50th Wedding Anniversary. That was crazy. Crazy, but fun. I really don't know Renea's side of the family that well, so Saturday I got to talk to a lot of them. Her sister Sherrie and her husband are so funny! I had a lot of fun hanging out by the hotel pool and drinking margaritas with them. On the way back to Dallas, we stopped in Waco with John and Renea to have lunch with Chris and his family since they couldn't make it to the festivities. Shawn and I didn't pull into our driveway until after 5, so you can imagine how tired we were, and still are. So glad we settled out of trial last week...I didn't want to be in Sherman all this week for trial. Now I have more time to get prepared for my three trials in August! Yay!
Oh yeah, I did win that wishlist cel. I think I'm going to be selling all of my settei to pay for it, but that's fine, because I'm not a big settei collector anyway, and it looks like they're going to a good home where they will be loved and displayed proudly.
You are...Nicholas D. Wolfwood! An atypical priest who carries around an arsenal in the shape of a cross. You have some problems with Vash's pacificism, but you admire him.
Lee, I'm going to hell with you for laughing at this:
A girl asks her dad, "Why am I called Rose?"
The father replies, "Because a rose petal fell on your head when you were born."
Then her sister asks, "Why am I called Lily?"
The father replies, "Because a lily petal fell on your head when you were born."
Her brother says, "ERTGTHREGERG£$%£$^£EGRD!!"
The father replies, "Shut up Cinderblock."
One of my ultimate wishlist cels has popped up on Yahoo Japan. God I'm going to be so poor if I win this, but I think, from a collector's standpoint, it will be worth it.
I'm reviewing an oral deposition of an emergency pediatric expert (not very exciting, trust me) and I found the best quote ever in here. This is soooo going on my quote wall:
OH MY GOD!!!! I JUST WON A TRIP TO JAMAICA!!
A few weeks ago, Shawn and I were at the Rave movie theatre and we registered to win this motorcycle. What do we have to lose, right? They called me today to tell me that not only am I a finalist, but I won a free trip to Jamaica! They promised that I wouldn't have to sign up for anything, that I wouldn't have to buy anything for this trip. We'll see whenever we go pick up our claims package. But either way I'm just excited about the possibility of going to freaking Jamaica for free!!! posted by Keri

Forgot to mention that I heard from SMU. Turns out that everyone they accepted has turned in their checks for their first deposit. If someone doesn't turn in their second deposit, hey, I get their spot. The earliest I would know about that would be the first day of classes. Um, okay, I'll stay on your waiting list, but if I get a spot, how the hell am I supposed to come up with the tuition in time? posted by Keri

Totally unexpected weekend. I was so stressed out on Friday from everything going on in addition to work that I came home and had a nice, long bubble bath. I have never used our bathtub in the master bathroom for anything, and it is quite nice. Sat there for awhile reading a book. Mufasa was very upset that he couldn't come into the bathtub. He loves playing in water. My aunt was going to clean my teeth on Saturday, so I planned to go to Dallas early, get my teeth cleaned and go to lunch with her. She called me beforehand and asked that I bring my dogs to her house so that they could play with her dog while we were out. I ended up staying there the rest of the day and even spent the night after sitting out on her hammock, talking and drinking wine all day. Shawn had drill this weekend so he joined us after work. Actually, I have a sad story regarding that. He went to Central Market to buy some more wine, and being that he came straight from work, he was still in his camoflauge. Two people actually dared to approach him at Central Market and called him a baby killer. Luckily we have some logical and sensible people in the world who promptly stood up for Shawn before he could even respond. It's comments like that that make me think we should pull out of Iraq because we don't have people over here worth fighting for. Yeah, I do have a lot of anger right now...want to start something??
Shawn left for Georgia this morning and will probably get back on Friday in time to see me pack up for Sherman for trial. Charlie said that this trial should not last longer than a week, which is good, because I have to get back soon to prepare for the other trials before I go on vacation. Speaking of which, I should get back to that. My office has become a sea of paper and somehow I must organize it and get it into boxes. posted by Keri

For the past couple of weeks I've felt this huge amount of stress...so much so that I feel like I could be at the brink of tears. I had no idea why I felt that way. Work wasn't very stressful, things are fine at home, and no family problems. Okay, so it was stressful on Monday when I had to get my dogs to throw up the ant poison they ingested,(little known fact- ant poison can kill a 150 pound dog in an hour) but this has been going on long before Monday. Yesterday I looked at my trial calendar. I have a trial in two weeks and three trials in August. Not only that, but I'm going on vacation in August. So now I understand why I've felt so stressed. It was impending doom stress. With me being gone for four days in August, and with hardly any time between trials to prepare for the next trials, I have loads of weekend work to look forward to. As in, I'll be working practically every weekend from here on out until the end of August. But I won't work the Saturday of my birthday. I say hell no to that. Not that I'm doing anything big with all my friends moving out of state, but I still refuse to work that day. Well, crap, I just found out that the attorneys want summaries of all of the transcripts I get for impeachment on experts, so now my workload has just doubled and I must swiftly depart.
Everyone wish the Stampes a safe trip! They leave for Seattle tomorrow morning at 4:30 a.m. I wonder how many times Kerri will be kicked before she actually gets out of bed. posted by Keri

Oy, vey. I need to learn that chasing tequila with dark beer is very, very bad. I'm sure I'll learn that before I'm eighty. Last night Shawn and I went out with Jarrett for dinner, kind of a last time we'll see him for awhile. Kerri wasn't able to come, so we didn't plan on doing much but dinner. We went to Snuffer's, and after drinking for awhile we headed over to the Flying Saucer. I learned how to throw darts. Playing darts while drunk makes it all the more interesting. After that place closed (who closes at midnight anymore???) we went to the bar across the street where I went back to drinking hard liquor. I had a lot of fun last night, but today I'm not sure it was worth it. Thank God I have today off to nurse myself back to health.
Friday night I went over to Kerri and Jarrett's to help Kerri pack up her kitchen with Allison and Rachel. They decided to make a "box" theme out of the event and we ordered pizza (because it comes in a box) and drank wine out of a box. Well, they did anyway. They only brought red, and me no fan of red wine. I'm really not a fan of wine from a box. We actually got a lot done with the packing. We packed up her china cabinet and her entire kitchen. Jarrett and Bullock dismantled the trundle bed, packed up the second bedroom and then tackled the garage. I'm guessing that the garage was/is a big task, because Jarrett mentioned last night that he was not done packing it up. I hope that I'll get to take Kerri out to lunch this week before they leave on Thursday. I'm about to lose my Chinese food buddy at work.
I signed up for my first Japanese class this week. Starting August 23rd, I'll be attending Japanese 101 at Richland Community College. So I'm finally getting serious about one of my new year's resolutions. I wish I could say the same thing for all of them. I bet if I got serious about a couple of others, I could stop my current problem: becoming a fatass.
Anyway, it's time to go back to drinking lots of water and lying on the couch. I have to finish laundry sometime today as well. And I have depositions to summarize. So glad I bought me a new laptop so I can work on the couch. Ah, did I not mention that? Yes, I have myself a brand-spanking new computer and I love it! So much power...and it folds thinner than my college books. Lighter than them too. Much to Shawn's dismay, I'm not giving him my desktop. My desktop still has other purposes to fulfill for me. Of course no one but the true geeks in the world understand why I want them both. Between this and my new cell phone, I'm in electronic-toy heaven. Toodles! posted by Keri
