Well, I survived my first week. Besides the fact that I feel like I have NO idea what I'm doing, I really like my job. The people are nice, the benefits are good, and hey, I actually get my own office! No, not a cubicle, an office...with a door and everything. I think I'm going to set up a little 2 gallon aquarium and have some aquatic frogs. Or maybe I'll just haul Ganon and Bowser up there. The possibilities are endless because it's all mine to play with. The commute does suck royal ass. As of Tuesday I was sick of it. We're probably going to put our house back on the market within the next couple of weeks (as soon as Shawn gets back from Pennsylvania) and we're going to look at houses in Garland. It's a crazy idea we have about being close to both of our jobs.

Anyway, I know it's a Friday night and everything, but driving an hour and a half each way to work wears a person out, so I think I'm going to be going to bed before too long. I think that the social life during the week will have to come to a close until we move. Oh well.

Website updates: new quotes, and look for new cels tomorrow. I've had a bunch that I've needed to add to my site, but I kept waiting for others to come in. Now that a majority of them are in (oh yes, there's more!) I decided to go on ahead and put them up.

It's been a pretty peaceful weekend. While most of my friends were galavanting up and down the French Quarter, and my husband received his concealed handgun license, I worked and ferret-sat. I've been ferret-sitting Molly for Christi since Wednesday. Although she's been a lot of fun to play with, I don't see myself ever getting a ferret. I don't need a live creature more conniving than me. I already have a dog more stubborn than me. Sheri came over on Saturday to keep me company/celebrate my new job. On Sunday I finished my project for Louellen. Well, I finished what I have, anyway. Now I get to wait for the next batch! It will give me something to do next weekend while Shawn has drill. I'm beginning to think that he has some military thing almost every weekend.

To everyone that went to Mardi Gras, welcome back! I hope you had fun! You all suck for going.

Just when I thought I had everything figured out, an avalanche starts. This morning the law firm called to offer me a job. I was so shocked I know I wasn't very coherent on the phone. I'm meeting with the attorneys tomorrow morning, and if that goes well, I have a new job! A new FULL-TIME job. I can still do my contract work with Louellen, but Petsmart will have to go. I know that they will understand, but I still feel bad about just starting and then quitting less than a week later. Is everyone still on the job rollercoaster? Because tuck in your arms and legs...here we go!

Talk about nothing going as expected over the weekend. I never thought it was going to snow this year. I don't fully understand why I thought so, as it has snowed and/or iced over ever since I moved to the D/FW area. Our original plans for Valentine's Day were to take the train from Dallas to Fort Worth and visit Wesleyan. If I end up going there, I'll probably be taking the train anyway out there every day, so it would be nice to see how it is. Then we were going to have a nice dinner out in Big D. A pretty nice deal for 2 very poor people. But then it snowed. Seeing how Dallas drivers can't drive worth crap in regular weather (and they complain about Houston drivers??? Pot, meet the kettle...) we decided not to chance it during inclement weather. So we ordered in Chinese food and rented My Boss' Daughter. We turned it off after forty-five minutes of Meet the Parents painful viewing. We ended up watching The Princess Diaries on ABC and drank two bottles of wine. It was actually a really cute movie, despite previous thoughts due to trailers.

Today was my first day at Petsmart. It was a training day, not really work. Whatever. Instead of going through a formal training with a supervisor or elder employee, they give you a handbook with a scavenger hunt in it. It tells you to look for certain brands, find out what certain products warn, types of fish and their behaviors, etc. etc. etc., and you have to answer various questions once you find the product/pet. I spent four hours walking all over that store to complete the scavenger hunt. Thank God I already knew the answers to most of the questions, due to the variety of pets I've owned. They didn't even expect me to complete it today. I don't go back until Friday, and then in addition to learning how to work the floor, I have another scavenger hunt. Whee! As tiring as it made me, I'm really glad they train in this way. Now I can tell almost anyone where specific products are in the store. I wish I could say the same about every breed of fish. Oh well...I'll learn that soon enough since fish is one of my departments!

I've gone from no jobs to 3. Yesterday Petsmart hired me to work part-time. I can't believe I'm going to get paid to play with and care for animals all day. One of the best parts is the discount. With all our animals, we could use a discount there, and I'll get to help some of my friends who are as big of animal lovers as I am. I still have no idea what is going on with the court job. No one will freaking call me back! If I ever get that all figured out, I'll have to turn down substitute teaching, simply because I won't be able to work that in.

I actually have something significant to say in this post. I found a job! I'm subcontracting with Louellen for her technical writing business. Who knew I'd actually do something with one of my degrees? It's only part-time, and it's one of those "as needed" type things for now, but hey, a job is a job. On top of that, as soon as Baylor sends me a copy of my transcript, I can mail in all of my paperwork and be a bona fide substitute teacher for Lake Dallas ISD. And then if everything works out as planned, I'll get the contracting job with the federal court, so I'll have all these "as needed" jobs which should take up a majority of my time and keep me fed. I'm becoming like Lee...a little Jamaican!

This past weekend my family came in town for my Dad's and Granny's birthdays. And of course, since my parents are in town, my grandmother has to invite all of the cousins in the area and my mom has to invite her brother and his family. 30+ relatives all in the same place. And none of them liked my hair color. Except for my mom and my sister. But isn't that what family is for, to tell you what they don't like and you need to fix? If the color of my hair is their only complaint, then I guess I'm doing really well. In addition to her engagement, my sister announced to everyone that she is among the recently unemployed and needs a job, just like me! She was unhappy with her job too, so this was probably the best thing for her, as it was for me.

My friends and family will be happy to hear that I finally broke the wine barrier! I haven't ventured to the reds yet, but I really like chardonnay. Not sauvignon blanc. Too citrus-y. Now I won't be so bored at the next wine and candles party I go to, and I can finally fit in a little better at family gatherings. They usually serve wine and nothing else but water.

In other news, one of the frogs has decided that he wants to be an acrobat when he grows up.

Anyways, time to shut this puppy down and go crawl back to the couch. I think all of the weather changes are finally catching up with me. I have my first deadline on Thursday, so I want to be nice and well tomorrow so I can mull through my assignment.

Website updates: I have a new banner for my RS gallery, thanks to a fellow forum-goer. It's really cool and it shows some of my new cels to come! I have watched some new anime, but I haven't decided if I'm going to review it. I think Spirited Away has been reviewed to death, thanks to Disney and Pixar.

Mufasa, who has never even attempted to chew shoes, has decided that two of my books must be taken out immediately: How to be a Villain and my Riverside Chaucer. So not only does he not want me to learn how to take over the world, but he doesn't want me to read anything Chaucer wrote. There may be a connection here.

Just like I said. The day I post, the day I hear from a law school. SMU graced me with a letter saying that they will be pooling the early decision applications with the regular decision. WTF? Isn't the purpose of getting everything in early is so you can get, well, AN EARLY DECISION??? So now I won't hear anything more from them until the end of April. Which now means that I have to beg permission from St. Mary's and Wesleyan to let me decide later than April 1. I have a feeling that SMU is doing this with their evening program applicants so they can get a feel for who all is really interested in their program. And I thought Baylor could be snobby at times...SMU wins this contest hands down. I guess being so close to Highland Park has really rubbed off on them. This doesn't necessarily mean bad news. They did deny some people, and I'm sure they admitted applicants with an LSAT score of 170. Basically, I made the first cut. I'm peeved because now I have to put plans on hold and possibly have to take a huge risk with the other schools that want their deposits by April 1. Then again, what fun would it be if EVERYTHING went according to plan?

Oh my God...a team I was rooting for won? Up until the last minute, I didn't think they were going to win! Definitely an interesting Super Bowl. The first three quarters were extremely boring and the last quarter was down right stressful. The commercials as a whole this year were at an all time low. Have we really used up all of the punchlines of the world?

Not much has been happening. Last week I fostered a cocker spaniel mix for about 24 hours. She went to a good home where a dog with her needs can be happy. She was a sweet puppy, but way too needy for my taste. She had to be by my side at all times. I'm not that way with any animal or human being, for that matter, so I knew that situation wouldn't last long. Shawn missed out on all that fun as he was in Pennsylvania freezing his ass off for the military. The things we do for our country, or er, a paycheck. And speaking of paychecks, nothing new on that front. I'm getting really really nervous about not having anything potential so far. I'm getting even more nervous that I haven't heard from the remaining law schools yet (although the schools I have heard from keep sending me presents: scholarships and clothes!). I know that God has a plan for me about everything, but I really hate waiting to find out what it is. I do think one thing is really clear: it's time that we move closer to where Shawn works. We moved to our house in Corinth so that I could be close to school. We stayed because my jobs were close to the house as well. Well, I don't have a job here and I don't go to school around here either. We're thinking of the Garland area, because it's close to Shawn's base and I can find jobs in Dallas easier. I've even made peace with the notion that I may be going to Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, and I'm okay with taking the train out there everyday. That will be cheaper than Shawn's gas bill from Corinth to work every month! Maybe once we move out there, we won't be so far for some of our friends to come and visit.

Now that I've posted all this, I'll hear something from a law school today. That seems to be how it works lately.

Website updates: a new anime review. I'll probably have a lot of these if I keep going over to Dave's every week for anime night and then borrowing stuff.
