This day has gone strangely different than I thought it would.
When Shawn came back from his camping trip, he dumped all of his stuff in the garage, and not in just any place...but along the garage door. There is only one tiny gap to walk through when entering and exiting the garage. So this morning, I was about to walk through the gap as I have all this week when I noticed a large spider web with two egg sacks in the corner. I bent to see what kind of spider may live there, and I saw I freaking huge black widow. The last time I saw a black widow in the garage, Shawn was in Afghanistan, and since I had to take care of it alone, I dropped a bucket on it and ran out of the garage screaming. It took every ounce of strength in me to not scream and run hysterically back into the house. I didn't have any strength to smash it, but just enough to actually walk by the web and out the garage. I NEVER want to be that close to a poisonous spider again. I called Shawn's cell phone and left a hysterical message. He couldn't understand what I said. I'm not going into the garage for any reason until Shawn deals with the problem. I had never seen poisonous spiders until I moved to the countryside...any wonder why I'm a city girl?
With that lovely incident, I was sure that today was going to be a crappy day. One of the attorneys here, Rafe, came down to my cubicle and asked to speak with me in private. We went into a vacant office and he shut the door. I was close to shaking. What had I done? Was it my billing? Was it because I talk to his assistant sometimes about what is going on at the firm? What happened instead shocked the crap out of me. He apologized for not getting to know me better the past year at the firm. He wanted to know my birthdate, my age, my husband's name, and my interests. We spent an hour talking. He said he wanted to make some more positive changes to his life, and he wanted to start by apologizing to me. I'm still blown away by the conversation. I'm even more shocked at the fact that he said he had been afraid of talking to me and befriending me. What is it about me that makes most of my guy friends terrified of me? I think that the only guy friend of mine that was never afraid of me is Jarrett, but I don't think much scares him. Despite all of the shock and confusion, I'm very happy that I had such a talk with him. It made me understand a little bit of how he thinks, and it has given me another positive outlook about my job here. I so needed another positive outlook. I was running out of positives.
So hopefully that uplifting moment will determine the rest of my day, and not that stupid black widow, whose time is coming....around six p.m. or so. Treasure your last hours, biotch!

Even though I studied pretty hard over the weekend, I feel like I played games most of the time. Christi, Matt, and Dean introduced me to Risk. That game is dangerously fun. Even though I didn't win, I feel like I held my own fairly well for my first time to play. I'm not sure if Shawn and I could play together...we get nasty when we compete against each other.
I bought Soul Calibur II for my Game Cube. This makes the fourth fighting game I own that Shawn refuses to play against me. I love fighting games and this one is so much fun it was hard to put down to go to bed. Now I have two fighting games with Link. Sad I know, but I'll kick your ass at either one of them any day.
I also introduced myself to Kingdom Hearts. Christi and Matt bought me this game for my birthday and I never opened it, telling myself I should finish Final Fantasy X first. I've already logged more hours into Kingdom Hearts than I have Final Fantasy, so I don't think I'll be finishing it first. Thank you thank you thank you Christi and Matt for such a sweet game. Hack and slash and Disney...what more could a girl want? posted by Keri

Anyone who knows Shawn knows that he is more the "Tool Man" than Tim Allen could ever hope to become. In honor of all the work he does around our house and other people's houses, I've dedicated a portion of the site to his talent. Click on the Home Improvement link to the left and read about his adventures to Lowes and back again. I've posted pictures of the works in progress that I have, and I may post other pictures of the finished products later. If anyone would like him to work on your home improvement projects, you'll have to wait until he finishes a few of our unfinished projects. posted by Keri

Oh my God I could use one more day of sleep. This was the first packed weekend I've had, without going anywhere, in a while. Friday night I went to the firm happy hour. Shocker, isn't it? What's more shocking is that I had a great time. I got to talk to the partners a bit more...they had no idea I was trying to get into law school. It was fun talking to them and other lawyers about the LSAT and law school. I think I may have made my own boss a little perturbed at me, as when he found out I was no longer applying to Texas Tech law school, he left shortly thereafter. Oh well. I have his letter of recommendation already, so he's finished with most of his usefulness. Hee hee.
Saturday my friend Lee came up to see my favorite local band, Bowling for Soup. We went with Jarrett and Kerri and a couple of Lee's friends. That was a blast. We arrived at Deep Ellum way to early, so we decided to walk around a bit and see what was going on. We stumbled upon a karaoke bar, and these women outside begged for all of us to go in and sing. We did, and we found out it was someone's private birthday party! Lee sang his usual karaoke hit and we bolted immediately after he finished. Bowling for Soup as always had a very entertaining show. Lee was happy because (he was drunk and) when he gave the band tequila shots during the show, Jaret stopped singing and called out Lee's name. He was so giggly after that.
Shawn and I got up way too early on Sunday to go over to a fellow co-worker's house and replace her front and back doors. I now know what a big pain in the ass replacing a door is. But removing the original frame is a lot of fun and very destructive. We were there from 11:00 until 8:30 that night, and we still didn't finish. One of the deadbolts we bought was stripped, and we ran out of time to put up the door trim and the screen doors. If you ignore the duct tape around the door frames, the doors look beautiful. Shawn is going over there today to finish with the trim and everything since he has Mondays off. Lola paid Shawn in beer and she grilled us steaks for dinner. What diet? After doing all of that work, now I kind of want a new front door. Shawn wants a new back door. We've pretty much figured out that we aren't selling the house any time soon, so some projects we have thought about are back on. After the LSAT, we're going to replace the carpet in the living room with wood flooring.
This next weekend will not be near so action packed. Shawn is leaving on a camping trip on Thursday, so I will be all by myself. Which means I will have nothing to do but study. That could be a good and a bad thing. posted by Keri

Happy birthday Caitlin!! I can't believe you're 18 years old...you have no idea how old that makes me feel!
Shawn has been asking me why I haven't updated all week. Honestly, nothing exciting is going on. This past weekend I went to the Baylor/UNT game and watched my poor school get its ass kicked. The highlight of that game was seeing Carleigh and Trey, who I haven't seen since my wedding. Carleigh, if you're reading this, I hope we can remedy that soon!
Other than that, I really have not done much besides study. Well, that and read Stone of Tears. This series keeps sucking me in...I know I'm going to have to buy the next book and then the next etc. etc. etc. They're written by Terry Goodkind, in case any of you fantasy freaks are out there looking for a new series to read (FYI: the first book is Wizard's First Rule). I suppose the next fantasy author I will have to tackle is Robert Jordan. His name pops up all over when I talk to other fantasy readers.
In other news, I'm supposed to help Christi go puppy hunting in a couple of weeks. She has had weiner dog puppy fever for about as long as I have known her. While I was looking online for weiner dog breeders, I found a Chow Chow breeder in Dallas. I have wanted a Chow Chow for the longest time...before I got Bond. A Chow Chow was going to be my next dog, until I stumbled across Krillin. I know it may be or seem to soon to even think about a new puppy, but this breeder has puppies ready to go and I keep thinking that maybe it's fate. Of course the price may prove otherwise.
Hmmm, I said more than I planned. I guess more is going on with me than I thought. Kevin actually has work for me to do today, so I better tackle that. Happy Hump-day! posted by Keri

Can you believe that I went camping? Yes, it is strange, but oh so very true! I have been wanting to go toobing ever since I took Carleigh's bachelorette party toobing down the Guadalupe (and how many years ago was that???), and this summer it seemed like everyone I talked to had gone toobing. We finally found a time to go toobing...Labor Day weekend! Oh how we wish we had realized that it was Labor Day weekend when the planning commenced. Christi and I had everything planned. We knew where we would camp, possibly who all would go, and when we going, where we would toob. We didn't find out until Saturday morning who all were coming (Christi, Matt, Shawn, George, and me), and we found out Saturday morning that our planned camp site was completely booked! After surfing the internet for back ups, we decided to drive down to New Braunfels and find our camp grounds "somewhere along the way." I don't suggest doing that EVER. We left Dallas at 11:30 a.m., and a little past 6:30 p.m. we found a camp site. Oh, we won't go there ever again, but it was a camp site. Despite all the chaos, I really did have a blast, and I found that I liked to camp. But I don't think I can camp for more than 2 nights. I am too much of a city girl. We went toobing down the Comal, which I will recommend to anyone over the Guadalupe. It's not very cold and you don't scrape your ass on the rocks. Even though I busted my ass on the steps (when they say maybe slippery steps, they ain't joking), I had a most excellent time. What can beat lounging in a river and laughing and drinking beer with some of your closest friends all day? I really wish I didn't have that horrible LSAT thingy hanging over my head, otherwise I would have gladly toobed a few more trips and stayed another night. I'm suddenly seeing more advantages to going to law school at St. Mary's in San Antonio. posted by Keri
